Judith's Fancy
|---|
This upscale neighborhood is home to the ruins of an old great house and the tower of the same name left from a 17th century chateau that was once home to the governor of the Knights of Malta. The `Judith` comes from the first name of a woman buried on the property. From the guardhouse at the neighborhood entance, follow Hamilton Drive past some of St. Croix's lovliest homes. At the end of Hamilton Drive, the road overlooks Salt River Bay, where Christopher Columbus anchored in 1493. A skirmish between Columbus's crew and a group of Arawak-speaking Indians resulted in the first bloody encounter between Europeans and West Indians.
