St. Croix's highest peak at 1,165 feet. Leaving
Cane Bay and passing North Star Beach, follow the coastal road that dips briefly into the forest, then turn left on Route 69. Just after you make the turn, the pavement is marked with the words, `The Beast` and a set of giant paw prints. The hill your about to hike up is the location of the infamous Beast of the America's Paradise Triatholon, an annual
St. Croix event in which participants must bike up this intimidating slope.
