It's worth a stop at this unmarked spot just past the Hawksnest
Bay overlook for breathtaking views of St John, St. Thomas
and the nearby British Virgin Islands. The flat promontory
features an old sugar mill. The pile of stones you'll see is what
remains of Christ of the Caribbean, a statue honoring world
peace erected in 1953 by Col. Julius Wadworth. The statue fell
to Hurrican Marilyn's winds in 1995, and the National
Park service chose not to rebuild it. From the parking
lot, the remains of the statue is about 100 yards up
a rocky path.
