Barnard is located in
Windsor County near
Silver Lake State Park, northwest of
Woodstock on Highway 12. This town of summer cottages and winter hideaways was home to journalist Dorothy Thompson and her husband, novelist Sinclair Lewis. Thompson was one of the few women war correspondents during World War II. She is buried in Village Cemetery on North Road.
