Charlotte is located in Chittenden County, 14 miles south of Burlington. The historic district in Charlotte boasts a number of notable buildings that date from the town's early days, when it rivaled nearby Burlington in size. One of the oldest functional ferry crossings in America is here, with service to Essex, New York. The town also features three covered bridges among its points of interest.

Charlotte is part of the Burlington, Vermont metro area.
