Fairfield is located in
Franklin County, seven miles east of
St. Albansin northwest Vermont near the Canadian border along Highway 36 near the Black River.
Fairfield is the birthplace of President Chester A. Arthur, and today, visitors can stop by the President Chester A. Arthur State Historic Site - with a reconstructed home of the 21st President.
A post office which was opened in 1803 is still in service today. Visit the historic covered bridge, built in 1865, which spans Black Creek, adjacent to Route 36.
