Scenic Hardwick (pop. 2,939) is located in
Caledonia County at the junction of Routes 14, 15 and 16. It has been called "the Gateway to Vermont's magical Northeast Kingdom."
General George Washington ordered construction of the Bayley Hazen Military Road, which facilitated Hardwick's development. Chartered on August 19, 1781, Hardwick later became known as the "Granite Center of the World."
Today Hardwick is a commercial hub for the region's farmers. The Lamoille River runs through town and features superior fly fishing spots. The river also is a favorite of kayakers and canoeists. In addition, Mackville Beach, parks, a variety of multi-use trails, hunting and fishing are in the area.
