Middlebury

Middlebury is located in Addison County, 34 miles south of Burlington along Highway 7 near the Green Mountain National Forest. Middlebury is a college town - Middlebury College, founded in 1800 by Timothy Dwight, son of the first white child known to have been born on Vermont soil. The college lists an enrollment of more than 2,000. Middlebury also is host to the annual Bread Loaf Writers Conference in August.

Information about nearby Green Mountain National Forest is available from the ranger office. Two covered bridges dating back to the early 19th century can be viewed near town. The Halpin Bridge is the hightest bridge above a stream bed in Vermont, and features a natural waterfall below.
