Montshire, a hands-on museum, has dozens of exhibits relating to the natural and physical sciences, ecology, and technology. The building is an exhibit in itself, with color-coded ventilation and heating systems, a see-through elevator hoistway, and exposed timber trusses revealing construction techniques. The building is located on a 110-acre site near the Connecticut River. The Museum's outdoor environment includes walking trails. Its exhibits include freshwater and salt water aquariums, live animals and mounted specimens from New England and around the world.
