Morrisville is located in
Lamoille County, 28 miles north of
Montpelier, along Highway 100 on the banks of the Lamoille River near
Smugglers Notch State Park.
Morrisville, like Vermont's other mountainbound towns, grew rapidly when railroad service reached the area. Visible reminders of that impact remain on Portland Street, where structures more closely resemble those of a Western boomtown that those of a New England village.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,206, an increase of 222 since 1990.
