Orwell is located in
Addison County, 15 miles north of
Fair Haven near the New York state line. The town is a sheep-raising center in the Champlain Valley.
The Mount Independence State Historic Site features Revolutionary War fortification, as well as extensive archaeological material. For a time, the fort served as the headquarters of the Army of the North.
