"The Marble Capital of the Unites States" |
Proctor is located in Rutland County, between Highways 7 and 4. It lies on the banks of the Otter River near Pico Peak Ski Resort. After marble was discovered in the area, Vermont Marble Company was established in 1880. The Vermont Marble Exhibit features a visitors center where visitors can learn how Proctor was the largest producer of marble in the U.S. In addition, visitors should visit Wilson Castle, a 32-room castle on a 115-acre estate, featuring a collection of European and Oriental furniture and art. Sutherland Falls supply the power and residents enjoy walking on marble sidewalks.
