Shaftsbury

Shaftsbury (pop. 3,767) is located in Bennington County, on Route 17 in the southwest corner of the state bordering New York. It was chartered on August 20, 1761. Shaftsbury's first settler was Jeremiah Clark from Rhode Island. In fact, one section of Shaftsbury is called "Little Rhode Island." Visitors will enjoy Shaftsbury Cobbles, the Topping Tavern Museum, and Shaftsbury Historical Society Museum. Shaftsbury also features the former homestead of poet Robert Frost. Lake Shaftsbury offers many recreational opportunities. Many ski resorts are less than an hour away.
