Sharon is located in
Windsor County, 23 miles northwest of Lebanon along Highway 14 on the banks of the Third Branch White River, near Sonnenberg Ski Area.
In the White River Valley and bordered by mountains on three sides, Sharon is the birthplace of Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), for whom there is a monument in town. Born in 1805, Smith lived in the area until he was 11, when his family moved to New York.
