Search Stowe Vermont

Stowe is located in Lamoille County, 10 miles north of Waterbury on the scenic portion of Highway 100 that runs from Wilmington to Troy.

Lying in the shadow of Mount Mansfield, the state's highest peak, Stowe is known as the "Ski Capital of the East," featuring the nation's largest interconnected cross-country ski trail system.

Stowe is also known as the home of the famous von Trapp family - immortalized in the movie "The Sound of Music" - who fled Austria in 1938 to escape Hitler's reign. The area around Stowe reminded the family of their homeland. Today, the Trapp Family Lodge welcomes visitors from all over the world. Johannes von Trapp, the youngest of the Trapp children, is president of the lodge.
