Amanda Park is near Washington's coast, at the foot of Olympic National Park. A settlement at the outlet of Lake Quinault into the lower Quinault River, the town was founded in 1925 and named by one of the founder, J.J. Southard, for his wife. The area on both sides of the highway is generally part of the Quinault Indian Reservation and use is governed by the Quinault Indian Nation.
