The 27-mile trail is managed by the City of
Seattle. The trail follows an old railroad right-of-way and runs along Lake Washington. In
Bothell, the trail becomes the Sammamish River Trail and continues for 10 miles into the town of
Redmond.
The Burke-Gilman/Sammamish River Trail is ADA accessible, except for two short sections on the Sammamish River Trail. The trail is a favorite with bicyclists and joggers, and there is a separate soft surface equestrian trail on the Sammamish River trail.
