Vegetation in this 11,961-acre wiilderness, in the southwest part of the Olympic National Forest ranges from rain forest to subalpine/alpine, as the elevation varies greatly and the average annual rainfall totals over 120 inches.

Marking the center of the wilderness is 4,492-foot Colonel Bob, the second highest point in the wilderness. Trails provide access into the wilderness, which is three miles west of Quinault Lake.
