Columbia City grew into a full-service community after it received a trolley station in 1900. During this peroid, the district added a number of public buildings that still stand today, including a Mission Revival-style school, Craftsman-style police station, and a Colonial Revival Carnegie library. The trolley station is long gone, but the buildings along Columbia City Historic District still trace its route along Rainier Avenue.
