Colfax is located in the southeastern portion of the state, in an area called the "Palouse," with rolling hills, rich farmland, and tall pine tree.
The community was first settled in the 1860s. It has been the county seat of Whitman County since the county was organized in 1871.
For the outdoor enthusianst, Colfax has many recreational opportunities including a beautiful 9-hole golf course, and many lovely parks.
