University Child Development School is an independent elementary school serving Seattle area children from ages three through fifth grade. UCDS grew from the University of Washington Lab School, which began on the University campus in 1911. Over the years, the school served as a setting for educational research. In the early 1980s, the University could no longer fund the school. Parents, eager to keep the program alive incorporated the school and UCDS was born. Today the school encompasses pre-K through fifth grade and serves 300 children on two campuses.
