Ferndale Washington |
Ferndale, in the Whatcom County, was so named in 1872 when the area's first schoolteacher noticed clumps of ferns surrounding the schoolhouse.
The town is located just minutes from the Canadian border and is close to many area attractions such as Mount Baker and the Nooksack River. The town is a trade center for area farms. In addition to agriculture, Ferndale is supported by oil refineries and the third largest aluminum reduction plant in the world.
Ferndale is part of the Bellingham, WA metro area.
