Only about 2% of the state's wine grapes are grown in this region, which includes the islands and mainland adjoining the waters of Puget Sound, extending east into the Cascade foothills. Most wineries located in the western-most region of Washington's Puget Sound purchase grapes grown in the warmer, drier wine regions to the east of the Cascade Mountain range, or grow them on their own vineyards in those parts of the state.
