Online Highways Home > Washington > Ice Caves State Park The ice cave is located part way up on the talus slope. The entrance, however, has been covered by rock slides and can no longer be visited. Water, freezing in the talus slopes in the winter, did not thaw until late in the summer. Local orchardists excavated the cave in the hillside to store their fruit. The park is located 8 miles northeast of Chelan on Highway 97. The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and covers about a quarter million acres.
