Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery

One of the three U.S. Fish and Wildlife fish hatcheries in north central Washington.

Annual rearing of 1.6 million spring chinook salmon is the primary objective of the hatchery. The chinook salmon must migrate 500 miles up the Columbia River and past seven dams to reach the hatchery.

The hatchery is open year round. Spectacular adult salmon, some weighing over 30 pounds, can be seen in the hatchery and the river from about May to August.

To reach the hatchery, turn south of Highway 2 at the west end of Leavenworth onto Icicle Road. Continue for about 2 miles to a sign directing you to the hatchery.
