
This particular area was the gathering places for different Indian tribes. They held their potlatch on the south end of the lake, played games, gathered berries, hunted and fished for the winter months.
The area was later important for mining coal, which was transported by train to Seattle.
The park includes diverse natural wetlands, a large blue heron rookery and the salmon-bearing Issaquah Creek. The park also has one of the largest freshwater beaches in the Seattle area. It is located 1.5 miles NW of Issaquah, off Interstate 90.
The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and covers about a quarter million acres.
