Longview, Washington (Cities) image

Longview is located in Cowlitz County at the confluence of the Columbia and Cowlitz rivers. It lies along Interstate 5 in a region of extensive forests.

Longview was named for Robert A. Long, president of the lumber company that planned and built a new city in 1922 on the site of Monticello, which was destroyed by flooding in 1867.

Today Longview is a leading industrial city and deepwater port that produces and ships wood and aluminum products. Nearby is Mount St Helens, a volcano that erupted violently in 1980.

The urban area consists of Longview and neighboring Kelso.

There is also a Longview, Texas.
