The Mukilteo Lighthouse was built in 1906. It is one of the few Washington lighthouses that still uses a Fresnel lens, and is open to the public. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The annual festival began in 1976 with a gift of 1,000 cherry trees to the city of Seattle from the Japanese government to celebrate the U.S. Bicentennial.
