First settled in the 1860's, Lynden became home to miners returning from the gold rush of 1858. Other homesteaders followed and together they turned the valley into fertile farmland. This attracted many Dutch immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century, and Lynden evolved into a prosperous agricultural region and one of the largest dairy centers in the nation. The town is on the Nooksack River in Whatcom County, near the Canadian border. Holland Days, held the first weekend of May annually, brings wooden shoe races, Klompen dancing, and more. For a little taste of Holland, visit Lynden!Lynden is part of the Bellingham, WA metro area.
