This Stevens County community on Franklin D Roosevelt Lake is actually the second town of the same name.
The first Marcus was established around 1885 on the east side of the Columbia River. By 1910, the town had a population of 300. In 1940, the original townsite of Marcus was flooded by the rising waters of a new lake created by the completion of Grand Coulee Dam.
Today, the town of Marcus sits on a bench above the original townsite.
