More than 40 years ago members of the Eastside community decided they needed a hospital of their own. They didn't want just any hospital, they wanted one that set the standard for quality health care. In 1960, after seven years of fundraising efforts by community members, Overlake Hospital opened its doors. Today, Eastside residents still view Overlake, a volunteer governed, nonprofit community institution, as the hospital setting the standard in regional and national health care.
Eastside residents, in an independent health care consumer study conducted in 2000 by the National Research Corporation, rated Overlake Hospital Medical Center as the top Puget Sound area hospital in 14 health care categories, including "Best Overall Quality".
A team of more than 1,800 employees and 700 physicians work together to provide the level of care people have come to expect from Overlake Hospital Medical Center.
