Mystery Bay State Park

The area once belonged to the U.S. Navy, who had repair shops and service floats that took care of the naval mothball fleet that was anchored in Kilisut Harbor.

The name derives from smuggling activity on the island during Prohibition. Trees overhanging the north end allowed the smugglers, with their shallow draft boats, to hide. The Coast Guard, pursuing the smugglers, felt their disappearance was mysterious, and the bay became "Mystery Bay".

The park features picnicking, beachcombing, boating, clamming and crabbing. The Washington State Parks system contains more than 125 developed parks and about a quarter of a million acres.
