Nestled in the Kettle River Range, the Ferry County town of Republic was incorporated in 1900 and named after the Republic mine - the major gold claim of the area. For decades the town was one of the nation's largest gold producers. Today, one active gold mines remain in operation, but now the community is also supported by agriculture
and outdoor recreation. There is also a Republic, Missouri.
