Sherman Pass Scenic Byway

Search Visit Washington

Starting in the town of Republic, Sherman Pass Scenic Byway is surrounded by incredible scenery, and not many people. The byway takes travelers through Colville National Forest, and climbes to Sherman Pass, Washington's highest mountain pass.

The road is the same route once used by Native Americans making their way to the Columbia River to fish. Later the trail became a wagon route.

The byway was named for Civil War General William Tecumsah Sherman, who crossed over the area in the 1860s.

Today, the byway is popular for travelers and bicycle riders.
