Originally mapped as a point of land on San Juan Island, it was later discovered to be an island at the turn in the channel between San Juan and Stuart Islands and was named "Turn" on the British Admiralty Charts of 1858-59.
The park features primitive camping, picnicking, saltwater fishing, clamming and scuba diving.
Most of the activity is of the day-use variety, with many people coming from nearby Friday Harbor. The park is accessible only by boat.
The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and covers about a quarter million acres.
