Originally called "Yakima," it became Union Gap after the main metropolis moved north to what had formerly been "North Yakima" and became the present city of "
Yakima" in 1884. It is part of
Yakima County.
The singing group, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, was named after this historic town. Union Gap is home to the biggest local shopping center - Valley Mall.
