Originally called "Yakima," it became Union Gap after the main metropolis moved north to what had formerly been "North Yakima" and became the present city of "Yakima" in 1884. It is part of Yakima County. The singing group, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, was named after this historic town. Union Gap is home to the biggest local shopping center - Valley Mall. Union Gap is part of the Yakima, WA metro area.
