This 177,465-acre wilderness straddles both Oregon and Washington in the Blue Mountains. The terrain is characterized by deep canyons, rugged basaltic ridges, and broad tablelands.

Backpacking is a popular activity here, and visitors encounter many species of wildlife such as large herds of Rocky Mountain elk, black bears, cougars, and rattlesnakes.
