Covering the northernmost part of the
Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas, Clallam County contains a wealth of natural resources. The
Olympic National Park has its headquarters in the county seat,
Port Angeles, which looks across the
Strait of Juan de Fuca to Vancouver Island.
The most northwesterly point on the 48 contiguous U.S. states is at Neah Bay. Ozette Lake, near the Pacific Ocean, was the site of one of the most important archaeological digs in the state, where an ancient Makah village that had been submerged under a mud slide centuries ago, was unearthed.
