Prescott is located in Pierce County between Durand and St Paul along US Hwy 10 where the Mississippi River and the St Croix River meet near River Falls and Ellsworth. Prescott received its official name in 1851, apparently in honor of Philander Prescott, a fur trapper who built a cabin on the site where the City of Prescott now stands. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,650, an increase of 407 since 1990.
Prescott is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.
