The River Towy From its source in the Cambrian Mountains, the Towy flows in a South Westerly direction for a distance of some 60 miles through Llandovery and Llandeilo before entering the sea through a long estuary below Carmarthen. The Abercothi Fishery Starts about four miles above the tide limit and so most sections of the water usually hold fish throughout the season The absence of any fish farming sites in the estuary seems to have enabled the South Wales sea-trout fisheries to have flourished whilst many in Scotland and Ireland have suffered decline As a salmon river the Towy is perhaps not in the same league as some Scottish rivers and yet it easily still rates in the top ten salmon rivers in England and Wales on the basis of rod catches. Further, these catches have remained remarkably consistent over the last decade.
