Tintern Abbey

This famous monastic ruin is located in the village of Tintern in Monmouthshire. The abbey was founded by monks of the Cistercian order in 1131, but the church dates from the latter part of the following century. The roof and tower are gone, but the remainder of the building is preserved. There are remains of cloisters and other monastic buildings to the north of the church.
