Point Plesant is in a growing resort area near the confluence of the Kanawha and Ohio rivers. It is said that when George Washington surveyed the area in the 1740s, he referred to it as the Pleasant Point. A recontruction of Fort Randolph, the best known of the town's forts, is in Krodel Park. A showplace for many of the town's events, the fort is open from mid-April through October. The 44-acre park also contains campsites, paddleboats, a playground and a miniature golf course.
The 11,164 acre Chief Cornstalk Public Hunting and Fishing Area, southeast of town, is accessible via a hard-surfaced roat that branches west of Hwy 35.
