White Sulphur Springs West Virginia |
White Sulphur Springs was a fashionable health and pleasure resort as early as 1778. It was named after its mineral springs, which are said to possess curative qualities. The site of the original spring is on the grounds of the Greenbrier Hotel.
From the time America entered World War II until July 1942, Axis diplomats and their dependents who had been stationed in Washington D.C., were interned in the Greenbrier until they could be exchanged for American diplomats.
Nearby are the 5,130-acre Greenbrier State Forest for camping, hiking and swimming.
