In the northwest corner of Wyoming, part of In Clarks Fork Ranger District and adjacent to Yellowstone National Park on the Beartooth Plateau. Take Hwy 120 N from Cody for 16 miles to Hwy 296. At the 'T' turn Right or East onto Hwy 212. Go 8 more miles to the lake. The lakes are open year-round, but the roads are only open in the summer.
One of many alpine lakes in the area. Many are accessible from the road and excellent for children learning to fish. Species present are: brook trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, artic grayling, and Yellowstone cutthroat. More successful fishing may be had by the angler willing to walk even a half to one mile from the road. The chance to catch a trophy lake trout and/or near state record artic grayling exists in the Beartooth Lake.
The drive is very scenic with spectacular drop-offs and waterfalls viewable from the road. Plan to bring mosquito spray if spending time outside in the early part of summer.
