Located 20 miles SW of
Casper, this 17 acre rearing station was built in 1958 on the banks of the
North Platte River. A very unusual but very important feature of the station is its constant water supply. A local spring produces nine million gallons of water each day. The constant year-round temperature is 60 degrees F. It is the warmest of all the fish hatcheries in Wyoming, and Speas has the fastest fish-growth rate in the state. Four-inch fish are produced in four months. Species reared here are mainly Snake River cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout. Nearby fishing for trout and walleye is available at the nearby
Alcova Reservoir.
