The Green River originates in the Wind River Mountains and the Bridger-Teton National Forest of west and central Wyoming. Tributaries leading off of the Green River include New Fork, Big Sandy and Blacks Fork. Inside the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area lies a 91-mile long reservoir that comes off of the Green River with a capacity of over 4 million acre-feet.

Inside the Green River and its basin, trona and coal industries are prevalant as well as oil and gas development. Green River contains a wide variety of fish for the avid fisherman, including trout and many others.
