South Pass City State Historic Site covers the entire town of
South Pass City. The eerie reminder of South Pass City's mining area is in the process of being restored. Twenty-five log, frame, and stone structures remain on 39 acres of land. The buildings include Carissa Saloon, South Pass Hotel, a livery stable, a jail, and a butcher shop. A visitors center includes interpretive displays and a video explaining the town's past. Living-history programs are offered. The site includes picnic facilities and an historic nature trail. Open May through September.
