Vore Buffalo Jump

Located at the edge of the northern Black Hills National Forest in Wyoming, this site was formerly used by the Plains Indians to stampede bison over the rim and into a deep sink hole. It was the best way to obtain the precious buffalo, which were the Plains Indians' basic food source and source of clothing and other materials in their culture. It is thought that at one time, up to 20,000 bison were trapped at this single location. There were many other buffalo jumps throughout the plains as well.

Vore Buffalo Jump is in a relatively secluded section of Wyoming, the far NE corner of the state.
