Search Visit Wyoming

Located on the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains, this complex holds 454 acres of steep canyon walls, springs, creeks, and tall cottonwoods.

Built in 1939, the Ten Sleep hatchery was built just five miles south of the Wigwam Rearing Station, and some of the eggs taken from the Wigwam facility are hatched at Ten Sleep. Wigwam contributes to one of the largest trout spawning operations in Wyoming.

The water at both facilities is provided by natural springs and a well near Wigwam. One million gallons a day flow through Ten Sleep at an average temperature of 56 degrees F. More than 3.5 million gallons per day flow through Wigwam at 50 degrees F. Some species reared at the complex include rainbow, Yellowstone Cutthroat, Snake River Cutthroat, and brood stocks of Kamloops Rainbow and Snake River Cutthroat. Fishing is available on nearby Tensleep Creek.
