Sweetwater County

Sweetwater County, also known as High Desert Country, has a year-round climate that is unique to the region: it gets over 300 sunny days per year.

Highway 28, a main highway in Sweetwater County, parallels the Oregon, California, Mormon and Pony Express trails. These trails remain in captivating condition, untouched for generations. In fact, over 100 miles of trail ruts in the county remain the way they were 150 years ago. Sweetwater County is also known as the Trona Capital of the World. The Trona is mined and processed into Soda Ash, which is an ingredient in glass, soap, baking soda and toothpaste. 95 percent of the Soda Ash used in the US is produced here, as well as the world's use of 25 percent from the county. Sweetwater County also includes the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, a remarkable formation, as well as the towns of Green River and Rock Springs. The Red Desert is in the N section of the county.
